Bill Baum - 2009 Hammer Award Winner

bill baumAFC created this award in 2007 to recognize practitioners—those who do the actual work of designing and building.

The 2009 Hammer recipient is developer and builder Bill Baum, who for the past 25 years has been kept the sound of hammers ringing in Over-the-Rhine. Admirers say that he almost single-handedly saved this classic historic district from demolition.

Bill not only saved countless properties, he and his coworkers in the firm Urban Sites rehabbed them into beautiful, distinctive apartments, condominiums, and commercial spaces. He worked with local architects to design dwellings that had character—one that reflected the spirit of the place and of those who loved it and wanted to live there. And he made quality construction affordable for first-time renters and buyers.

The vision and dedication of this modest man has made a profound difference for urban life in Cincinnati. AFC is pleased to recognize Bill Baum with its Hammer Award.
